Another slight discrepency with what we actually ended up with in the series: In one episode, Sonic was flashing back to when he first met Tails. In those memories, Tails was still a pretty small baby (he was still wearing a diaper and a bonnet, even), but even then he could already fly. I'd think that at 5½ (or even 4½, as he ended up in the final product) the technique would be old news by then.
